Description

This free lesson comes from our “Hope and Anxiety” series. The series invites you to journey with your students through conversations about mental health and ask the question, “What might God have to say about all of this?”

In the lesson, your group will engage in a “low stakes” activity where they’re asked to make balloon animals. As the activity unfolds, an element of competition will be introduced to create a level of performance anxiety. Later, students will reflect on their experiences together.

The lesson also includes a theological reflection section that’s based on two readings: the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6:25-50, and Henri Nouwen’s book, “Life of the Beloved.” Students will be invited into a conversation about anxiety that’s grounded in scripture, and will have space to reorient their thoughts about anxiety.
