We serve the Broadmoor neighborhood and the larger Shreveport-Bossier City community. This position can be either full-time or part-time with flexible hours, health insurance option for full-time work, and paid time off.

Job Description:

Broadmoor UMC is seeking a full-time or part-time Director of Youth Ministry to inspire and equip our youth (6th grade through 12th grade) students to know, grow, and go in God’s love. You will oversee and provide leadership to any Youth Ministry staff, youth, parents, and laity. You will also continue to sustain existing programs as well as initiate new programs that encourage our youth students to strengthen their relationship with Christ.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Youth Ministry by creating a team that works together to achieve the mission and goals of BUMC.
  • Provide leadership to the Youth Ministry staff, volunteers, parents & interns, in consultation with the Pastors.
  • Sustain existing programs in a creative way and initiate new programs that encourage youth students to strengthen their relationships with Christ and each other.
  • Provide opportunities for youth students to reach out into the wider community with service projects and missions.
  • Assure that the administrative and support functions necessary to the flourishing of this ministry are carried out in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain social media platforms.
  • Work with Director of Communications to utilize and develop different mediums of communications with students and parents, as well as maintain branding and publicity.

 

Requirements:

  • Completed Safe Sanctuary Training
  • CPR Certified
  • A motivator who is outgoing, welcoming, compassionate, understanding and able to relate to parents, youth, college-age students, staff, and volunteers
  • One who is inspired to lead people to Christ and is called to serve youth and their families
  • Demonstrate ability to direct and coordinate Christian education programming
  • Collaborator and team player
  • Effectively work with staff and laity from diverse backgrounds
  • Proficient in computer skills and using social media platforms
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Attend meetings of assigned committees

 

Weekly Duties:

  • Make sure Sunday School lesson/ resources are in place
  • Make weekly announcements
  • Lead short devotion with all youth
  • Lead Confirmation Class
  • Make sure UMY plans/ resources are in place
  • Lead UMY Night
  • Make sure all spaces used by Youth that night are put back, cleaned up, and like before.
  • Decompression/ Reflections on Sunday (What worked Well? What didn’t?)
  • Check-in with Students that have missed for the last few weeks
  • Make list for week
  • Email Sunday School lesson to teachers
  • Make sure messenger pics/ articles are sent to communications director for The Messenger
  • Update play-by-play for Sunday’s UMY
  • Work on upcoming Retreat, trip, tour, events
  • Brainstorm/ Schedule out additional UMY themes, events, playbook
  • Staff Meeting
  • Order Online Supplies for this week’s UMY by Tuesday- (Things that cannot be bought locally/ are cheaper online)
  • Finalize Sunday Night Volunteers
  • Make sure Calendar is Up to Date
  • Finish any graphics/ photos needed for social media posts
  • Send Weekly parent email via mailchimp
  • Work on upcoming Retreat, trip, tour, events
  • Brainstorm/ Schedule out additional UMY themes, events, playbook
  • High School Small group
  • Finalize agenda for Sunday Night
  • Work on upcoming Retreat, trip, tour, events
  • Brainstorm/ Schedule out additional UMY themes, events, playbook
  • Schedule out parent volunteers for 2 weeks in advance
  • Watch/ Make edits for future Sunday School Curriculum
  • Schedule Remind Texts for the Week
  • Confirmation Lesson/ Supplies
  • Buy local Supplies for Sunday, both Sunday School and UMY (perishables, things that can be bought at the local Walmart for cheaper, etc.)
  • Check/ balance Budget
  • Make sure band set list/ rehearsal order is in place for Sunday
  • Parent Check-ins (youth that have been missing/ parents have not served in a month)
  • Work on upcoming Retreat, trip, tour, events
  • Brainstorm/ Schedule out additional UMY themes, events, playbook
    • Finish anything not already completed on Weekly Checklist
